Co hýbe mladými lidmi na východě Německa? Seriálový dokument “(K)Einheit – Wie die Gen Z über den Osten denkt” / “(K)EINHEIT – Jak generace Z přemýšlí o východním Německu” dává hlas deseti mladým lidem z východního Německa ve věku 18 až 25 let. Sdílejí své zkušenosti s výzvami i své vize budoucnosti v regionu, který byl po desetiletí formován proměnami.

Mnoho mladých lidí z východního Německa odchází, protože ve svých rodných městech nevidí perspektivu. Zároveň v některých regionech získávají na síle pravicové struktury. Vnější pozorovatelé tyto procesy často vysvětlují jednostrannými narativy o východním Německu, ale realita je mnohem složitější. Debata o „Východě“ často opomíjí různorodost životních zkušeností – zejména těch, které prožívají mladí lidé.

Mladí lidé na východě Německa se aktivně zabývají svou historií a jejími důsledky. Sledují transformační zkušenosti svých rodičů a prarodičů, reflektují minulost NDR a proces sjednocení Německa. Zkoumají, jak tyto zkušenosti ovlivňují jejich přítomnost a budoucnost. Zároveň přispívají do veřejné debaty svými hodnotami a vizemi a aktivně si vytvářejí svou budoucnost. Odmítají zastaralé stereotypy, které východní Německo redukují na problémy a nedostatek perspektiv.

Tento seriálový dokument je pozvánkou k poznání rozmanitosti východního Německa očima nové generace. Chceme ukázat, že Východ je mnohem víc než jen stereotypy, které ho často doprovázejí – je živý, plný rozporů a bohatý na příběhy, které stojí za to vyprávět.

Promítání zahrnuje dvě části seriálu: “Výzvy Východu: Mezi demokratickým závazkem a pravicovými strukturami” a “Budoucí perspektivy: Zůstat, nebo odejít?” Film bude promítán v původním znění (němčina) s anglickými titulky. Po projekci bude následovat diskuse s Lisou Trebs, režisérkou a spoluzakladatelkou iniciativy (K)Einheit/(Dis)Unity. Moderovat bude Annika Werner, členka týmu (K)Einheit.

Iniciativa (K)Einheit / (Ne)Jednota je kolektiv mladých lidí z generace Z, kteří se zajímají o to, co pro mladé znamená integrace východního a západního Německa po roce 1989 až do současnosti. Usilují o budoucnost, ve které východní Němci rovnocenně přispívají svými různorodými perspektivami k politice a společnosti. (K)Einheit je hlasem generace Z z východního Německa. Umožňují propojování zástupců Gen Z a podporují mezigenerační dialog o různých zkušenostech východních Němců. Prostřednictvím multimediální politické osvěty a mediální práce činí východoněmecké perspektivy viditelnými v politice i společnosti. Přitom se vždy staví za demokracii, rovná práva a účast na rozhodování.

Film Screening and Debate: (Dis)Unity – Young Eastern German Voices

What moves young people in the east of Germany? The serial documentary “(K)Einheit – Wie die Gen Z über den Osten denkt” / “(Dis)Unity – How Gen Z thinks about the East” gives 10 young people in East Germany aged between 18 and 25 a voice. They report on challenges and visions of the future in a region characterised by decades of upheaval.

Many young people in East Germany are leaving because they see few prospects in their hometowns. At the same time, right-wing structures are gaining a foothold in many regions. External actors explain these processes with one-sided narratives about East Germany; but the reality is not that simple. The debate about ‘the East’ does not consider the multiplicity of realities - especially the realities of young people's lives.

Young people in East Germany are actively engaging with their history and its aftermath. They trace the transformation experiences of their parents and grandparents, and reflect on the GDR’s past and the reunification process in Germany. They explore how these experiences influence their present and future. At the same time, they contribute to the debate with their values and visions and actively create visions for the future. They fight back against outdated stereotypes that reduce the east of Germany to challenges and the lack of prospects.

The serial documentary is an invitation to experience the diversity of East Germany through the eyes of a new generation. We want to show that the East is far more than the stereotypes that often dominate it - it is alive, full of contradictions and rich in stories worth retelling.

The screening will include two serial parts: “Challenge East: Between Democratic Commitment and Right-Wing Structures” as well as “Future Prospects: Staying or Going?”. The film will be broadcast in its original language, German, with English subtitles.

The film screening will be followed by a discussion with Lisa Trebs, filmmaker and co-founder of the initiative (K)Einheit/(Dis)Unity. Moderation by Annika Werner, team member of (K)Einheit.

The initiative “(K)Einheit”/”(Dis)Unity” is a collective made up of young people from GenZ concerned with what the integration of East and West Germany after 1989 up to the present day means for young people. They are committed to a future in which East German people equally contribute their diverse perspectives on politics and society.

(K)Einheit is a mouthpiece for Generation Z from the East of Germany. They enable networking between representatives of Gen Z and promote cross-generational dialogue about the different experiences of East Germans. Through multimedia political education and public relations work, (K)Einheit makes East German perspectives visible in politics and society. In doing so, they always stand up for democracy, equal rights and participation.
